If you have an Amazon Alexa anywhere in your house, this is one lawsuit you’ll probably want to keep an eye on.
When I first heard about it, my reaction was basically… “Honestly… this doesn’t even surprise me.”
The lawsuit alleges that Alexa devices recorded users’ conversations without their knowledge in certain situations. Because so many people have Alexa devices in their homes, this has quickly become one of the most talked-about consumer lawsuits.
So… What’s Going On?
The lawsuit involves allegations that Alexa devices recorded private conversations without users realizing it. Amazon has disputed aspects of the allegations, and the case has led to a proposed settlement.
If you own (or owned) an Alexa device, it’s definitely one I’ll be watching closely.
Why I’m Sharing This Now
One thing that’s different about this lawsuit is that claims weren’t open yet when I made my video.
I still wanted to tell people about it because these things can move quickly once filing opens. I’ve learned that if you wait until everyone is talking about it, you might not have much time left to file.
How I’m Keeping Track
Whenever I hear about a settlement that’s expected to open soon, I follow it so I can get updates. That way, when filing officially opens, I can let my community know as soon as possible. It’s a lot easier than trying to remember to check back yourself.
This is exactly why I tell people not to ignore lawsuits just because claims aren’t open yet. Sometimes the best thing you can do is know they’re coming. That way, when filing opens, you’re ready instead of hearing about it after the deadline has already passed.
