If you’ve ever owned a Hyundai or Kia, this is definitely one settlement worth checking.

The lawsuit involves allegations that certain vehicles had an airbag defect that could prevent the airbags from deploying properly in some situations.

When I looked it up, I was surprised by how many vehicles were included.

Is Your Vehicle on the List?

Hyundai

  • Sonata (2011–2019)
  • Sonata Hybrid (2011–2019)
  • Kona (2018–2023)
  • Kona N (2022–2023)
  • Veloster (2019–2021)

Kia

  • Forte (2010–2013)
  • Forte Koup (2010–2013)
  • Optima (2011–2020)
  • Optima Hybrid (2011–2016)
  • Sedona (2011–2012, 2014)

This list may not be complete — always check the latest eligibility information for the full list of included models.

How Much Could You Receive?

When I checked my own eligibility, it estimated I could receive up to $350. Every claim is different, so your payment may vary, but it’s definitely worth spending a couple of minutes to check.

Don’t Forget About the Other Hyundai & Kia Lawsuit

If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ve probably also seen me talk about the Hyundai & Kia engine immobilizer lawsuit. That’s a completely separate class action involving certain vehicles that were more vulnerable to theft because they didn’t have engine immobilizers.

If you’ve owned a Hyundai or Kia, it’s worth checking both lawsuits, you could qualify for one, the other, or even both depending on your vehicle.

Tiffany’s Tip

Don’t assume you aren’t eligible just because you don’t own the car anymore. If you owned one of the affected vehicles during the eligible time period, it’s still worth taking a couple of minutes to check. You never know what you might qualify for.

Check Your Vehicle

Don’t see your car listed? Vehicle lists can be long and may change over time. If you think your Hyundai or Kia might be included, I always recommend checking the latest eligibility information.
