If you have an iPhone 15 or iPhone 16, this is definitely one lawsuit worth keeping an eye on.

When I first saw this one, my first thought was… “Wait… wasn’t that one of the biggest selling points of the new iPhones?”

The lawsuit claims Apple advertised certain AI features, including improvements to Siri, that weren’t available as many customers expected when they purchased their phones. Update: Apple has agreed to a proposed $250 million settlement, the court granted preliminary approval on July 17, 2026, and claims are now open until December 21, 2026. Apple denies wrongdoing.

What’s the Lawsuit About?

The lawsuit alleges that Apple promoted certain AI features for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16, leading customers to believe those features would be available when they bought their devices. According to the lawsuit, some of those features were delayed or unavailable, and consumers are seeking compensation. Apple disputes the allegations, and the case is still developing.

Which iPhones Could Be Included?

According to the settlement, it covers U.S. purchasers of all iPhone 16 models, plus the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, bought between June 10, 2024 and March 29, 2025. The regular iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are not included. Check the exact eligibility rules on the official settlement website before you file.

How to File and What You Might Get

File directly on the official settlement website, smartphoneaisettlement.com. It’s free, and you file separately for each eligible device. The settlement describes a presumptive payment of about $25 per device that could go down or up (to a cap of $95) depending on how many valid claims are filed. Payments will not be sent until the court grants final approval, so expect to wait.

Tiff’s Tip

Have your iPhone’s serial number handy before you start (Settings, General, About). And only use the official settlement website. You never have to pay anyone to file a class action claim.

Final Thought

I don’t know about you, but if I bought a new phone because I was excited about a feature that wasn’t actually ready, I’d want to know about this settlement. If your phone is on the list, take a few minutes before December 21, 2026 to file on the official site. I’ll share updates on final approval.
